The Berliner Takht Ensemble (founded 1995) plays classical Arabic compositions, especially Longa (fast track) and (worn 10 / 8 rhythm) Both forms of composition go back to the Ottoman examples. They usually begin with a prologue (Muqadimma), followed by verse (Khana) and chorus (Taslim). Instrumental interludes for soloists are sometimes prescribed. The Tarab Ensemble sings Arabic choral songs (like Muwaschah, Ughneya, Taqtuqa) from orally handed down tradition, traditional poetry, or more recently (eg by Sayed Darwish, Zakareya Ahmed and Mohamed al-Qasabgi, who spent 30 years with the Egyptian singer To Kulthoum) .
