Egyptian-born Yousry Sharif is an internationally celebrated
choreographer, performer, and instructor of Middle Eastern Dance. Based
in New York City, he established the Egyptian Academy of Oriental Dance,
and he has coached and directed troupes and individual artists around
the globe. Sharif, celebrated for his acute musical sensitivity and
choreographic originality and sophistication, is responsible for
championing the fine art of oriental dance in the United States &
Europe.
Grounded in Middle Eastern vocabulary, blessed with an acutely
sensitive ear, and as an ingeniously creative artist continually
questing for new expressions, Mr. Sharif has developed a body of work
which exemplifies that unique synthesis of knowledge and originality.
He has also produced high quality classically-oriented CD’s and
performance videos of his choreographies which are an invaluable asset
to students, professionals, and the sophisticated audience. He is one of
those rare masters of dance who has a distinctive “voice” - an
aesthetic vision generated from musical inspiration - which demarcates
his compositions with a signature vitality and authenticity.
Kitty’s Soul Nahawnd - produced by Yousry Sharif for Kitty Lam, China
Kitty is an Egyptian Raqs Sharqi (classical Belly Dance) specialist known for her clean and thorough technique and her passion in teaching and preserving the true essence of this ancient but evolving art form. Her choreography is original, beautiful and challenging, and her performances fiery, charismatic and engaging.
She has been teaching and performing in Hong Kong since 1996. She attracts the most students who want to learn the genuine article in Hong Kong. Her classes are intensive, fun and most of all, inspiring.
Kitty is the protégé of Mr. Yousry Sharif, Cairo and New York, a guru known worldwide when it comes to Egyptian Belly Dance. She dances in leading hotels, restaurants and country clubs by appointment.
Recently Kitty was hired by “Cirque du Soleil” to train its Quidam performers and artists on her specialty during their seven- week tour to Hong Kong. She was also invited to be the sole Belly Dancer on the Egyptian scene on “Faust’s Around the World in 80 Days” musical in March 2006 - a nearly sold out extravaganza which critics said delights and entertains like any West End and Broadway production.
Three times per year Kitty has her sabbatical training in Cairo and New York. She tours around South-East Asia for workshops. She is frequently featured in TV documentaries, newspaper articles and lifestyle magazine stories.
This CD is my means of giving back to the dance that has given me so much. Every day I am happy, fulfilled and blessed. I cannot start imagining the month and month of toil that Yousry Sharif and Mr. Affifi must have gone through passionately to make this CD an extraordinary reality. I am more than grateful and immensely indebted to what they have done.
And special thanks go to Nourhan Sharif, who helped to coordinate and facilitate things big and small. Without them I would have a lot more hurdles to trackle.
Produced by Yousry Sharif, this is a CD you won't want to pass up. Featuring outstanding selections of traditional Egyptian style music, including a hot, sassy drum solo with earthy percussion.

This CD was created for drummers and dancers alike.
Our goal is to show the great variety and diversity found among the different regions, countries,
and genres of the Arab world. This recording introduces rhythms from five major geographic regions
of Arab world: the Gulf "Khaligi" (Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Oman, Kuwait, and the Emirates), Egypt "Masri",
North Africa (Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia), Iraq, and the Levant or Arab East (Lebanon, Palestine, Syria and Jordan).
Do to time restraints, only two rhythms from each of these five regions are provided, as each region could easily fill
an entire CD or more by itself. Several genres are covered, such as rhythms for vocal music (Sowt, Jurjuna),
rhythms for group line dance (Dabkaat and Chobie), rhythms for spiritual rituals (Hadari)
and rhythms for wedding ceremonies (Zaffa). When listening to this recording, you will begin to experience
many concepts in Arab rhythm found in varying degrees, such as syncopation, swing, and polyrhythm (especially
among the Gulf and North African samples).
It is our hope that this CD will show both the diversity and unity among the beautiful rhythms found within this huge
array of countries united by the same language and culture.

“Drum Attack” is the latest exciting release of Lebanese drummer Tony Chamoun of Boston.
The selections are dedicated to many professional dancers in the Boston area for whom Tony has played in his career offering a great variety and mixture of dynamic rhythms that will appeal to the student, teacher and professional dancer. Tony is from a celebrated musical family from Lebanon and his father is the famous recorded Lebanese singer, George Chamoun who saw to it that Tony learned to play the tabla as early as he learned to walk. Growing up in a musical household, Tony was exposed to many great drummers in the past and learned from them including Lebanon and Boston’s late Ibrahim Maalouf, a unique talent.
What makes Tony Chamoun great today is his ability to assimilate this musical education of the past with his unique talent and continued musical experience today producing the innovative exciting rhythms of Drum Attack. We highly recommend this CD to all dancers and aficionados of Arabic rhythms.
